Appreciate this piece! California geology is so complex and interesting. I tried many times to get my arms around it, but it is such an old and dynamic landscape. You learn eventually, but sloooowly...

I feel like the Central Valley is one of those formations that someone can't imagine without knowing it exists. I like how so many different things grow there and how anything could be growing there. I remember once driving through and seeing corn in the southern area and wondering where am I, am I in Iowa? Then there is all that rice north of Sacramento, flat green fields of rice with silos full of rice.
